Hello All;
The Department of Transportation has released NTIAC's final report on NDE of
composite compressed gas cylinders, which is now available from our website
at http://www.ntiac.com/compcyl.html (or
http://www.ntiac.com/compositefinal.pdf if you prefer to go straight to the
PDF).
Composite cylinders are finding more and more uses today, including SCBA
(self contained breathing apparatus) tanks for emergency workers, natural
gas vehicles (NGVs), and the like. The study began with a brief literature
review on the state of the art in composite cylinder inspection, which
formed the basis of a preliminary feasibility study into which NDE method(s)
might be applicable for inspecting the cylinders at the refiller station
level. In future work NTIAC will conduct a full round-robin evaluation of
the down-selected methods.
NTIAC would like to acknowledge (and I would like to personally thank) the
participants in the project and their organizations:
Michael Thomas
Manager, LaserUTT System
Lockheed Martin Aerospace
Richard Finlayson
Director, Research, Engineering Applications, Certification, Training
(REACT) and New Business Development
Physical Acoustics Corporation
Brian MacGregor
Sales Engineer
Thermal Wave Imaging
Don E. Bray
President and Chief Engineer
Don E. Bray, Incorporated
If anyone has any questions about the project or its findings, please feel
free to contact either myself or anyone from NTIAC.
Regards,
Chris
