Hello All,
As first reported by the Science Blog (http://www.scienceblog.com), a
team at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is claiming the development of
a tabletop "crystal fusion" generator that operates at room temperature,
which could have implications for neutron and X-ray radiography. In
particular, the breakthrough could lead to a new generation of portable
radiography equipment.
The device uses two pyroelectric crystals and a deuterium gas to
generate neutrons, and is capable of generating up to 200,000 eV
X-Rays. More information is available from the Science Blog at
http://www.scienceblog.com/cms/ny_team_confirms_ucla_tabletop_fusion_10017.html
. The new results are described in the Feb. 10 issue of Physical Review
Letters.
Regards,
Chris
